In the beginning…

The Czechoslovakian Wolf Dogs of today can all be traced back to 5 original lines which were a mix of Carpathian Wolf and German Shepherd Dog. Pictured above is Brita, a female Carpathian Wolf who formed the basis for one of these very lines and produced 10 offspring to begin the journey forward to a new breed. The other wolves included in these original dogs were Argo, Sarik (pictured left) and Lejdy.

With careful breeding and selection the Czechoslovakian Wolf Dog became a breed in its own right. In 1989 provisional recognition was made by the FCI and in 1999 they were breed number 332.

This is one of the early German Shepherd Dogs used in the breeding programs.
